its a nice day.
I don't have much of anything to 'report', but it does seem a good day for writing.
The coffee shop I am sitting in currently is filled to the brim with other 'lazy sunday' types. I am sitting in very close quarters with an elderly gentelman who is scribbling notes on a yellow steno pad. He insists on engaging with me in akward conversation and I have humored him by taking out my earphones (although this means that Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is no longer the soundtrack to my blogging). In fact, the nice old man's most recent comment to me was his expression of surpsise about the speed in which I type. Wait, no, now he's asking me questions about computers in general. I don't think he's heard of the concept of wireless internet before. I will enjoy the akward conversation because he is a cute old man, and afterall, what am I actually doing currently? Nothing. That's the beauty of a lazy sunday.
My goodness. I wish I could describe to you the genius of this man. He's already expressed his disdain for rappers, communists, and democrats. And, come to find out, he is a landlord. That is his profession. He seems to approve of my profession, though I didn't bother trying to explain that I am an in house booking agent. I just said that I work at a record label - to which he repllied: "oh Classical? or jazz?". I told him, that no, we have pop and rock music, to which he then said: "Oh well, you don't have any of that rap music I hope! You wouldn't want any of those hoodlums hanging around."
Priceless.
Thankfully, for the sake of myself and my current conversation, we do not have any of "that" rap music. I have garnered his seal of approval.
And, now, Ron (as I just learned he is called) is off to get a sandwich. We wished each other the best of luck, though Ron said I hardly need luck. I hope to see Ron here again soon.

because its friday.
Your senior year in high school is supposed to be "the best year of your life." Let's see how much you remember.
1. Who was your best friend?
Abbie
2. What sports did you play?
Softball, soccer, I also ran track (briefly) and wore argyle socks to track meets.
3. What kind of car did you drive?
an 81 Honda Civic with Leapord print seat covers and a Ninja Turtles bumper sticker.
4. It's Friday night. Where are you?
The Fishbowl (our church coffeehouse/venue) or Denny's. Maybe Chevys. or TPing with Jeremy and Adam.
5. Were you a party animal?
um, not really. I thought I was punk rock. But, looking back -- going to see Sappo and Silage at the Fishbowl on Friday nights wasn't very crazy at all.
6. Were you in the "In Crowd"?
I think so? Homecoming, student government, all that jazz...
7. Ever skip school?
Sort of. Just took an extra sick day here and there. nothing big.
8. Ever smoke?
Nope.
9. Were you a nerd?
yeah, kinda. Straight A's and crap like that...
10. Did you get suspended/expelled?
not even close.
11. Can you sing the fight song?
not sure what you are referring to.
12. Who was your favorite teacher?
Mr. Thomasson or Mr Mahnke
13. Favorite class?
English (but only with Thomasson, not with Mrs. Fendley)
14. What was your school's full name?
Forest Lake Christian High School
15. School mascot?
FLC Falcons, baby!
16. Did you go to prom?
every damn year.
17. If you could go back and do it over, would you?
No way, jose.
18. What do you remember most about graduation?
I stepped on Abbie's toe and made it bleed. And I went to a dance party afterwards and wished I was with Phil T and not my boyfriend.
19. Favorite memory of your senior year?
hm. probably when a bunch of us girls went and forked/TP-ed Angie P.'s house and wore ski masks and dark clothes and wrote "Cruella Deville" on her driveway in toothpaste and Abbie was scared that we were going to die before she ever got to sex. It was mean of us (I know), but terribly fun.
20. Were you ever posted up on the senior wall?
i don't think we had that ?
21. Did you have a job your senior year?
yeah, I worked as a filing clerk for Dynamic Chiropractic.
22. Who did you date?
Jason K. the whole stinkin year. till the week before I went to college and dumped him. yup.
23. Where did you go most often for lunch?
Closed Campus. So, I ate bagels every day for lunch (which my mother packed for me)
24. Have you gained weight since then?
um, actually, I dont think so.
25. What did you do after graduation?
Went to Biola.
1. Who was your best friend?
Abbie

not the Easter I expected.
This is the first year I spent Easter without my family.
It was also (notably) my first Easter without an Easter Basket.
I sort of expected Easter to be a bust this year.
For starters, I dropped Jamie (if you don't know who Jamie is, then you must not have seen or heard from me in the last month) off at the airport at 9:25 am. Not the most pleasant way to start my Easter holiday (to put it lightly). I am no good with these things.
Then, I got to church a half an hour late. And I was by myself. On easter.
But Kristin (thank the Lord for Kristin) saved me a seat. And the sermon was incredible. And there were free scones and juice boxes! And I went to Kristin and Amanda's for Easter lunch and was surrounded by good friends and I ate a LOT of good food. And I drank alcohol (yup, I can again!) -- but not too much. :) And Dan from Sherwood came over and we watched Space Ghost on You Tube (and David Hasselhoff videos) and we played cards and had a delightfully relaxing holiday.
And even though I was physically and emotionally exhausted, when I finally went to bed (2 am), I fell into a deep and peaceful sleep. I haven't slept that well in weeks.
To mimic my mom's blog/chipper text message -- "He is Risen, Indeed!".
Its true, He has risen.
So simple (and so true).

Christians can be punk rock, too. (or not)
This is from an email I got from a Christian venue in Ohio today. They wanted to book one of our bands (which is not a Christian band) and sent over a list of "rules of conduct" for the bands that play their venue. Read it and weep, folks. You can't put a price on entertainment that is this good.
Must be Christian music!
-you are expected to have some kind of ministry, whatever you are comfortable with, we are expecting you to open with prayer
- we can provide pa system, but you must provide mics, cords, stands
-We are open Tues. thru Saturday, we have country, gospel, bluegrass, some acoustic on Thurs., heavy rock on Fri and all kinds on sat. We predominately book 2 bands a night
-Featured bands share full love offering taken up for them. All bands are expected to partner in the advertising and bring customers with them. Let their friends know about the show.
-Opening acts are usually solo or duets , they are not at this time compensated, they are expected to stay for the whole show, it's polite
-all artist can sell their merchandise, space and a table will be provided
-show start at 7:30 PM on weekdays, 8 on Saturday and, load-in is between 6-6:30 PM
- the MustardSeed will advertise in 5 different location around Columbus, Ohio, band should consider some supporting ads
-please bring a picture or poster to hang on the wall of your band, with your contact info
-please do not bring food in from the outside, we will provide some coffee and water, we have food for sale .
- If you need to cancel 2 weeks notice is required! It is the way Christians would act

FIRE!
I just watched two houses blow up.
Ok, ok, not blow up.
But it was the biggest fire these eyes have ever seen.
and there were firemen on crane/ladder things and hoses and lots of water and smoke.
and I did hear a loud(ish) thud/explosion and then the flames got very large.
It was amazing to watch.
in the words of Kevin, the intern -- we were "rubberneckers".
